France is dealing with another day of protests against plans to raise the country's retirement age.
Demonstrators on Thursday blocked a road leading to the airport in the southern port city of Marseilles. The protesters stopped cars from reaching the airport, but aviation officials said there were no plans to cancel flights. The leader of a major labor union called for a new day of protests next week, as union leaders prepare to meet Thursday to discuss future actions. Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux said 14 of the country's 200 fuel depots were still blocked by protesters. President Nicolas Sarkozy has ordered police to clear demonstrators who are disrupting fuel deliveries. Those blockades have affected supplies at more than 1,000 French gas stations. U.S. pop star Lady Gaga postponed two Paris shows scheduled for later this week, saying trucks for the production may not be able to reach the concert venue.
The unrest comes as the French Senate prepares to vote this week on legislation raising the minimum retirement age from 60 to 62, and the age for full pensions from 65 to 67.
